I had the opportunity to speak at the Sage TPAC conference in Vancouver, BC this week. I opened the session by asking the group what was the last real innovation in the ERP space. One person said “Windows.”

Unfortunately no one could come up with anything more recent. While arguably .NET and Web client architecture are newer, they haven’t really brought innovation to the space.

ERP software has become a race to see who can cram the most features on a 1024×768 screen. True innovation will come when publishers turn away from features and turn more to the user experience with the software.

While it would be egotistical to say that the z.Find is the first real innovation in ERP since Windows, we believe that applications like the z.Find are where true ERP innovation will be in the near future.

My job requires me to travel quite a bit. My favorite part of traveling is meeting my reseller channel in their home area and tasting local flavors. This week I was fortunate enough to spend time with my friends at Emerald TC for a couple day demo in Memphis, TN. After a long day of of demoing software, Emerald took me to a local favorite for Barbecue, Rendezvous.

What could characterize Memphis more than blues music and Memphis-style (dry-rub) barbecue. This particular restaurant initially showed signs of a great barbecue since the entrance was half way down a back alley; no pretense at this restaurant. I was certainly not disappointed when dinner was served. In short, this was the best barbecue I have ever eaten…by far.

Now when I think of Memphis, I will think of incredible southern hospitality and Rendezvous ribs. Thanks for a great taste of Memphis Emerald!
